Mentoring Approach
RTC uses mentoring to strenghten the capacity of Health Care Workers (HCW), facility managers, social workers, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and assistants, counselors and community care workers CCW; in an integrated service program.
Areas covered include prevention including Prevention of martenal transmission (PMTCT) and post exposure prophylaxis (PEP), voluntary counseling, palliative care, STI TB/HIV and Antiretroviral treatment laboratory support, Clinical records, Data Managemen.
A comprehensive care training team consisting of a Clinical Director, a Doctor, a Nurse Clinician and a Clinical Nurse Trainer provides dedicated support to 3 district hospital sites and atleast 5 feeder clinics for a period of 4 months, completing 3 cycles a year. These are supported by a pharmacist, Lab Technologist and community care manage.
Each team initially evaluates the treatment service training needs and provide targeted didatic training, ongoing mentoring and coaching using standardized procedures manual and tools.
Targeted didatic training, case discussions and mentoring in assessing, initiation, follow up and mentoring to clinic staff and ongoing telephone consultation.
Implement a pharmacovigilance program through, detection, data collection and monthly analysis with feedback. Regular review of clinical statistics and effect change to improve perfomance.
