About Regional Training Centre

Image 0 The Regional Training Centre (RTC) is the result of an evident need to improve the Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquires Immune Disease Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), tuberculosis (TB) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) treatment and care currently provided to South Africans living in the Eastern Cape Province. The Centre is housed at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthata, but is a Centre with many partners and collaborators. Although the first real steps to develop the RTC were taken in January 2003, both before and after that date much thought, consensus building, support and effort have gone into making the RTC what it is today. Dr. Dan Kayongo, a Professor in the Department of Medicine at WSU, is the Director of the Eastern Cape RTC. He is assisted by a Deputy Director of Training, a Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, a Clinical Director, a Community Mobilization Manager, and a Resource Center Manager. Dr. Kayongo is advised by an Advisory Task Team and is informationally supported by an ECDoH Liaison.
